They have their distinct geographical location, language, cultures, and social identities living peacefully together with other ethnic groups of the country. The literal meaning of the word is \u2018Lion\u2019 which represents the\u00a0braveness of the Gamo ethnic group. <span style=\"font-family: Poppins; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">The Gamo\u2019s are found to the west of Lakes Abaya and Chamo. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f5da4be e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"f5da4be\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4048d77 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4048d77\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-family: Poppins; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">The Gamo massif is a compact formation, high, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Poppins; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">well-watered, and relatively rich, which contrasts with the aridity of the neighboring low lands. Their residential area is mostly known as \u201cGamo\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Poppins; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400;\">highland\u201d.<br \/><\/span><\/p><p>The people speak a Gamotho language, which is a part of the wider Omotic language family. The Gamo highland is well known for its \u201cEnset\u201d or\u00a0\u201cfalse banana\u201d production which is the main source of tap food. A tall hut\u00a0that resembles a giant Elephant head whihcis made of bamboo trees is an\u00a0eye-catching residential house in Gamo highlands. Gamo people are also\u00a0well known for their artistic weaving knowledge which takes considerable\u00a0part as an economic base.<\/p><p>Throughout the highlands, people live in di\ufb00erent settlements which are organized into more than 40 di\ufb00erent community units or \u201cDeres\u201d. \u201cDere\u201d is a local community in Gamo ethnic that is governed by its own traditionally assigned leaders called \u201cKawo\u201d and \u201cHallaqa\u201d. Each \u201cDere\u201d has its assembly places called \u201cDubbusha\u201d. Dubbusha is a Public square where the Gamo elders address all issues and solve con\ufb02ict cases.<br \/>\u201cDubbusha\u201d also serves as a cultural meeting place, where the community and traditional leaders set rules and regulations, appoint local leaders, discuss social and cultural a\ufb00airs and transfer indigenous knowledge for new generations. The Zayse ethnic group resides in three kebeles near Arbaminch town. They are Elgo, Wozaqa, and Dambile.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-612e865 e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"612e865\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3438462 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3438462\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The language of the Zayese people is called \u201cZaysete\u201d or \u201cZayesegna\u201d. It is grouped into the Eastern group of the North Omotic language family.<br \/>The Zayse people livelihood is based on farming, animal rearing, beekeeping, \ufb01shery, and banana plantation.<\/p><p>The Zayse people construct their local hut in a circular shape. It is built with indigenous trees, such as Juniper (Tsid), Milts Ferrugenlaa (Birbira), Olea Africana (Woyera), which are used for walls construction and Bamboo (Brundaila) for roo\ufb01ng. To build a big house about 12 pillars are needed. In a single pillar house, the pillar wood is stood up at the center. They mainly speak a lowland East Cushitic language which is called Basio.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a74567f e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a74567f\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-affcd62 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"affcd62\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The islanders speak quite a range of languages besides Basio. They are good in Gamotho, Gats\u2019ame, Wolaytetho, AfanOromo (Guji) and Amharic.<\/p><p>The Gidichos are engaged in multi-economic activities. Their main economic activities are animal husbandry, local boat transport, and crop production supported by handcraft (weaving), bee keeping and \ufb01shing.<\/p><p>The islanders use \u201cWolabo\u201d for \ufb01shing and water transportation. \u201cWolabo\u201d is the cultural boat that the Gidicho people make it by the lakeside \u201cBar bone\u201d plants. Bar bones are simple woods that can \ufb02oat easily on water bodies. They use this boat for transportation and \ufb01shing activities. \u201cWolabo\u201d carries 15-20 people at once.
